He was born June 27, 1851, at Bryan, received his education in Kentucky and took postgraduate work in Belleview Hospital, New York. He was married to Miss Theresa Antoinette Horton of McKinney, Dec. 22, 1875, three children being born to this union. His first wife dying, he married Miss Vallie Robertson in Dallas in 1910. For thirty years he practiced his profession in this city.
Surviving are his wife, two daughters, Mrs. Toy Kreas and Miss May McIver, and a son, Otto McIver, former Texas League baseball star, all of Dallas, and a sister, Mrs. Joe Grisset of Waco. - The following appeared on 11 October 1927 in The Dallas Morning News: Funeral services for Dr. J. D. McIver, 76, retired physiian, who died Sunday night at his home, 4319 Bexar street, will be held at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the chapel of Ed C. Smith & Bros. Undertaking Company. Robert H. Coleman, pastor's assistant of the First Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be C. E. Whitley, George Kittrell, T. W. Hawkins, Edward C. Robertson, Clyde Smith and Dr. L. G. Jordan.
