Dr. David McIver was born about 1810 in North Carolina. He received a Republic of Texas Third Class headright of 600 acres in Nacogdoches County. He arrived in Montgomery County, Texas, by 1840, at which time he rendered two Negroes and one work horse. In 1850 and 1860, he was enumerated in Grimes County with wife Nancy. Shortly afterward, the family moved to Danville, as Green Wood entered into his plantation account book of 2 December 1863, "Dr. McIver and family left," and on 17 January 1865, "Dr. McIver moved home to Danville." On 22 January, Green Wood sold Dr. McIver a load of fire wood. In May 1865, Mr. Wood settled up with McIver for corn, firewood and fodder. Then on 7 January 1866, "Mrs. McIver wife of Doctor McIver was Buried here today." Dr. McIver returned to Grimes County, where in 1875 he married Ivanova Caroline Moon, widow of Henry L. Flynt. They were still living in Grimes County in 1880, but their death dates are not known.
