- The following appeared on 10 October 1927 in The Dallas Morning News: Dr. J. D. McIver, 76, of 4319 Bexar street, a retired physician, died at his home at midnight Sunday. He was born June 27, 1851, at Bryan, received his education in Kentucky and took postgraduate work in Belleview Hospital, New York. He was married to Miss Theresa Antoinette Horton of McKinney, Dec. 22, 1875, three children being born to this union. His first wife dying, he married Miss Vallie Robertson in Dallas in 1910. For thirty years he practiced his profession in this city.
Surviving are his wife, two daughters, Mrs. Toy Kreas and Miss May McIver, and a son, Otto McIver, former Texas League baseball star, all of Dallas, and a sister, Mrs. Joe Grisset of Waco. - At the time of his death Edward Otto McIver was living in Dallas, Texas, at 10609 Aledo.

McIver was born on July 26, 1884, in Greenville.
He grew up and received his early schooling in Waco and Dallas.
McIver, who started his baseball career at an early age, first played in the outfield with several Texas League teams. Then he joined clubs in the Southern League and Pacific Coast League.
In big league baseball, he played in the outfield with the St. Louis Cardinals in the National League.
He had beensuperintendent for twenty-eight years when he retired last September from his work in West Texas towns with Underwood Compress & Warehouse.
He made his home in Dallas at 10609 Aledo Drive.
His wife survives. - The following appeared on 6 May 1954 in The Dallas Morning News: Funeral services for Edward Otto McIver, 69, retired superintendent of the Underwood Compress & Warehouse Company and former major league baseball player, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Camp Funeral Chapel, 4202 Live Oak. He died Tuesday in a Dallas hospital.
:TAB: The Rev. Allen Craft, pastor of the Casa Linda Presbyterian Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. He was the son of the late Dr. J. D. McIver, a pioneer Dallas physician. He was a 32-degree Mason and a member of Khiva Shrine at Amarillo. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church.
