b. circa 11 March 1820, d. 8 November 1892
- Father: Daniel Ireland b. circa 1793, d. between 1850 and 1870
- Mother: Margaret Cochran b. circa 1793
- Samuel S. Ireland was born circa 11 March 1820 in Tennessee.
- Daniel Ireland and Margaret Cochran appeared in the US federal census of 1 June 1830 in Williamson County, Tennessee. Other (counted but unnamed) members of the household apparently included Samuel S. Ireland, Elenor S. Ireland, Jane Ireland and Elizabeth Ireland.
- Daniel Ireland and Margaret Cochran appeared in the US federal census of 1 June 1840 in Robertson County, Tennessee. Other (counted but unnamed) members of the household apparently included Samuel S. Ireland, Adaline Ireland, Elenor S. Ireland and Jane Ireland.
- He married Jane A. Jackson on 15 December 1842 in Robertson County, Tennessee.
- It is an educated guess that Samuel S. Ireland's first wife was [Jane?] Almira Jackson, a first cousin of his second wife, Emily Jane Barham.
- Daniel Ireland and Margaret Cochran appeared in the US federal census of 1 June 1850 in Robertson County, Tennessee, and also Kentucky-born Daniel Ireland, age 12, and laborer John Collins, and living very near Thomas Barham and his family.. Other members of the household included Samuel S. Ireland, Jane Ireland, Elenor S. Ireland and Adaline Ireland.
- He was a carpenter, according to the 1850 census.
- At the time of the 1840 census Margaret was about 47 years old, and only the known children were in the household. In 1850, 12-year-old Kentucky-born Daniel Ireland is enumerated in the household of Daniel and Margaret Ireland, and Martha and Cornelia Ireland (ages 6 and 4, respectively, also born in Kentucky) are enumerated in the next household, of Silas and Francis Thomas. While there is possible that the two girls may have been Samuel's children from his first marriage, that still does not account for young Daniel.
- He and Emily Jane Barham obtained a marriage license on 25 May 1855 at Robertson County, Tennessee.
- He married Emily Jane Barham, daughter of Thomas Newsome Barham and Elizabeth Perry, on 27 May 1855, with W. R. Sadler, JP, officiating. Emily's sister Mary married James Richard Harrison, whose three brothers all married sisters of Samuel Ireland. The marriage was witnessed by James Richard Harrison.
- Samuel S. Ireland died on 8 November 1892.
- He was interred at Barham Cemetery, Marion, Williamson County, Illinois, part of present-day Rose Hill Cemetery.
