• The following appeared on 8 September 1911 in The Montgomery Advertiser: (Faunsdale, Sept. 7) John Shahan, one of Faunsdale's most prominent citizens, died at his home about 4 o'clock this morning, after being sick but a few days. His death came as a severe shock to his family and friends. He is survived by a wife, three sons and five daughters.
• The following appeared on 10 September 1911 in The Montgomery Advertiser: (Uniontown, Sept. 9) Mr. John Shahan of Faunsdale, died Thursday, after an illness of about a week. Interment was at St. Michaels Cemetery.
       Mr. Shahan was a prominent farmer of Marento and leaves a wife and eight children, Mrs. George Nixon of East Orange, N. J., Miss Elizabeth Shahan of Nashville, Tenn., Clifton Shahan of Mississippi and Mrs. R. D. Drake, Misses Evelyn and Nell Shahan of Faunsdale. He was about 65 years old.
