  • The following appeared on 6 December 1948 in the Dallas Morning News: Hi Erwin, former Dallas baseball player and later a Texas League umpire, died Saturday night here after a 6-weeks illness. Erwin was one of six brothers who gained recognition in professional baseball. He was fifty-six years of age. After retiring from active play, Erwin umpired in the Texas League, the Western Association and the American Association. Surviving are his wife; his mother, Mrs. Laura Erwin; and five brothers, Tom Erwin, Hal Erwin, Babe Erwin and Powell Erwin, all of Dallas, and Ross Erwin, of Rochester, N.Y. Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Monday at thhe Weiland Funeral Church, 2909 Live Oak. Requiem high mass will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Calvary Hill Cemetery.
