Pegues, who died suddenly yesterday afternoon in the rear end of his Pine street dry good store, will be held this afternoon at half past four o'clock from the First Baptist church, of which the deceased was a member. Services will be conducted by Rev. C. C. Coleman, pastor, assisted by Rev. George W. Smith.
Selection of pall bearers was made from the intimate friends of the deceased during his lifetime. They are C. W. Merchant, A. M. Robertson, W. A. Minter, Jr., C. C. Compere, George L. Paxton and Thomas Russell.
After the services at the church the Masonic lodge here, of which Mr. Pegues was a member in good standing, will take charge. Services at the cemetery will be held by the Masons.
Of Mr. Pegues' relatives who were notified of his death a number will attend the funeral services. Mrs. H. F. Blailock, a sister of Mrs. Pegues residing at McGregor, will arrive on the 4:27 westbound Texas & Pacific train. E. C. Pegues, a brother of the deceased, came in last night from Standon. Victor Anderson and wife, the latter a step-child of Mr. Pegues, and C. E. Pegues, a nephew, all of Stamford, arrived last night over the Wichita Valley. Ed Pitts, a nephew from Sweetwater, and Charles Pitts of Cleburne, will also attend.
Mr. Pegues was in his forty eighth year. He came to Abilene from Pontotoc, Miss., in 1885, residing continuously in Abilene, first as clerk and later as a dry goods merchant, since that time. Twenty-one years ago he married Mrs. Bennett Young. He leaves a wife and two step-children, Mrs. Victor Anderson of Stamford and R. L. Young of Abilene.
Doctors who were called to Mr. Pegues' side immediately following the attack which overcame him are of the opinion that heart failure caused death. The belief is strengthened by knowledge of the fact that Mr. Pegues had long been a sufferer from heart failure, having been seized with an almost fatal attack five years ago.
The sorrowing wife and children, as well as all the relatives, have the sincere sympathy of all Abilene in their bereavement.
