- On Tuesday, 30 December 1862, Green Wood recorded in his plantation daily account book: "Sent 2 waggons & 6 hands to Mr Gant,s for Pork. Killed 4 hogs for Mr Williamson (732 lbs). Killed 7 hogs for Mrs Thomason (812 lbs). Sent them to her cut up & spread." And on the following day, "The Waggons returned from Mr J H Gants with 20 hogs, 4667 lbs, at 10 cents per lb." On Thursday, the 1st, "Settled up the 20 hogs bought of J. H. Gant, all large meat."
