- Research Note: Although Samuel King Ward is identified as a son of Mary Ann Barlow Ward in the 1870, 1880 and 1910 censuses, he was born a few years after Jeremiah Ward's death in 1862. Perhaps he was the orphaned child of one of Jeremiah's brothers.
- Mary Ann Barlow appeared in the US federal census of 1 June 1870 in Irwinton PO, Wilkinson County, Georgia. Other members of the household included Samuel King Ward, George W. Ward and Jeremiah Jackson Ward. The origins of Samuel Ward have yet to be determined, but it seems likely that he was a nephew of Jeremiah or Mary Ann Barlow Ward.
- Mary Ann Barlow appeared in the US federal census of 1 June 1880 in Bethel District, Wilkinson County, Georgia. Other members of the household included Samuel King Ward, George W. Ward and Jeremiah Jackson Ward.
