- She married Elbert Sanders Pegues, son of Rufus Marcellus Pegues and Sara Olivia Pegues, on 5 April 1911 in Charleston, South Carolina, at the Church of the Holy Communion, with the Rev. F. Harriman Harding, rector, officiating.
- The following appeared on 7 April 1911 in The Charleston Evening Post: A beautiful wedding this week was that of Miss Josephine Hacker, daughter of Mr. Francis B. Hacker, to Mr. Elbert Pegues, of Cheraw, which was celebrated Wednesday afternoon at 3 o'clock, in the Church of the Holy Communion, the Rev. F. Harriman Harding, rector of the church, performing the ceremony. The church was exquisitely decorated . . . . A brilliant wedding march announced the coming of the bridal party which was led by the ushers: Messrs. John D. Newcomer and Edward H. Robertson, of Charleston, and Rev. Mr. Rouse, of Cheraw. Immediately after these was the maid of honor, Miss Lucia McGowan, who was beautifully attired in a gown of . . . . She was followed by the bride on the arm of her father, the bride wearing an elegane champagne colored tailored suit . . . . The bride and her father were met at the chancel by the groom and his brother, Mr. Hilliard Pegues, of Cheraw, who acted as best man. There being a breaking up of the family, there was no reception after the wedding. The gifts were numerous and very handsome. Mr. and Mrs. Pegues left Wednesday evening for their home in Cheraw. The out-of-town guests at the wedding were Mrs. W. C. Smith, of Williston, Rev. Mr. Rouse, Messrs. Hilliard Pegues, Wilds Pegues, Frank Brooks Pegues, of Cheraw, and Miss Nancy Pegues, also of Cheraw.
- The following appeared on 10 May 1911 in The Charleston Evening Post: Mr. and Mrs. E. S. Pegues, of Kollock, near Cheraw, were in the city for a few days, guests of Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Gilliland. Mrs. Pegues came down to accompany her father, Mr. Francis B. Hacker on his way to Kollock where he will make his home with his daughter. They left here Monday morning.
- The following appeared on 23 June 1915 in The News & Courier: Mr. Francis B. Hacker, one of Charleston's prominent business men, died at Pinopolis, Monday evening. At the time of his death he was at the home of his daughter, Mrs. E. S. Pegues. Mr. Hacker was president of the Wando Phosphate Works for a number of years, and when he retired from active business he made his home with his daughter at Pinopolis. He was 79 years old.
Two sons and one daughter survive him. The sons are Mr. John L. Hacker, of Atlanta. The daughter is Mrs. E. S. Pegues, at whose home he died.
During the War Between the States Mr. Hacker served with Walter's battery, Washington Artillery. He was present when Johnston surrendered his army at Greensboro.
Funeral services will be held at the Church of the Holy Communion this morning at 10:30 o'clock. Arrangements for the funeral are being made by the J. M. Connelley Company.

Simons and James Johnson. - Elbert Sanders Pegues and Ellen Josephine Hacker appeared in the US federal census of 1 January 1920 in Mount Pleasant, Charleston County, South Carolina. Other members of the household included Lucia M. Pegues, Elizabeth Hacker Pegues and Helen Butler Pegues. Also in the household was unmarried cousin Helen N. Butler (age 64).

S. Pegues, having made the trip unaccompanied.
- Ellen Josephine Hacker became a widow at the 26 March 1957 death of her husband Elbert Sanders Pegues.
- Ellen Josephine Hacker died on 7 May 1971 at age 93 in Kingstree, Williamsburg County, South Carolina.
- She was interred at Magnolia Cemetery, Charleston, South Carolina.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday at Magnolia Cemetery, Connelley's announced.
Mrs. Pegues was born Feb. 18, 1878, in Charleston, a daughter of Francis Beckmann Hacker and Mrs. Anna Herbert Hacker. She was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, Mount Pleasant.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Lucia Morehead of New York, N.Y., and Mrs. William J. Erckmann of Mount Pleasant' five grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
