  • The following appeared on 8 July 1965 in the Rome News-Tribune: Russell T. (Tuck) Mitchell, a Floyd County probation officer, died at 11 a. m. today in a Rome hospital following an attack suffered a short time earlier at the county courthouse.
         Mr. Mitchell resided on Mitchell Road, Rome Rte. 2. A native of Alabama, he joined the Floyd County Superior Court probation staff in October of 1958 and had served in that capacity since. Prior to that he hwas employed as a salesman by Rome furniture stores.
         He served in the United States Marine Corps prior to World War II. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by the Daniel Funeral Home. The family will be at the residence of the late Dr. and Mrs. J. L. Garrard on Wade Circle.
         Mr. Mitchell was married to the former Dorothy Garrard.
         Other survivors include two sons, Martin (Buddy) Mitchell, of Rome; Tommy Mitchell, serving with the U. S. Marine Crops, Camp Lejeune, N. C; a daughter, Miss Georgia Mitchell, Rome, and other survivors.
