  • The following appeared on 27 January 1916 in The Columbus Enquirer-Sun: Jule C. Mitchell, one of the most prominent of Columbus, died at the city hospital this morning at 11:30 o'clock after a five days' illness following a stroke of appendicitis. He was operated on at the hospital Tuesday at noon. His condition, although at first thought to be more favorable, took a turn for the worse and the end came this morning.
Saturday night, Mr. Mitchell became sick. Thinking it a slight attack of indigestion or colic, he did not at once consult a physician. As his condition grew worse, he was carried to the hospital, where he was operated on Tuesday to remove the appendix. His death was the result.
Jule Mitchell came to Columbus from Pittsview, Ala., where he was born. Twenty-four years ago today, he was married to Ellen Hardin by Dr. Robert Harris. The past fifteen years, he has been in the mercantile brokerage business, having been associated with E. L. Stanley for a number of years. Later he was in business for himself and at the time of his death he was partner in the firm of Mitchell and Crawford.
During the forty-four years of his life, most of it spent in Columbus, Jule Mitchell had earned the love and respect of all with whom he had come in contact. He was a member of the Columbian Woodmen.
He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Georgia Mitchell; his wife, two daughter, Ellen and Georgia, and four sons, Josiah, Jule, Hardin and Fluellen. All of his family are now living in this city.
Up to the time of going to press no funeral arrangements had been made, excepting that Drs. Robert Harris and O. B. Chester would conduct the services. It is peculiarly appropriate that Dr. Harris should conduct this service, as he has been connected with the life of the deceased for many years.
