- The following appeared on 11 September 1919 in The Houston Post: G.B. Oliphint, 56 years old, former Tax Assessor of Walker Co. and City secretary of Huntsville, died in his home in Huntsville at 6 p.m., Wednesday, according to advices reaching Houston Wednesday night. Mr. Oliphint is survived by his widow and six daughters of Huntsville, besides a stepsister, Mrs. W.W. Chamberlain, 1808 Dennis Ave., and other relatives in Houston. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., Thursday in Huntsville. The Masonic Lodge of which Mr. Oliphint was a member of high degree, will conduct the services.
