  • Circa March 1817, Hannah Williamson prepared a will, summarized as follows: Deed of Gift from Hannah Rives, of the District and State aforesaid, for and in consideration of natural affection.....
    do give and grant unto my beloved Children and grand Children here after named the following negro slaves, viz.
    to Simon Rives...slaves, Abbey Charly, Bella Tenda Indah, Kizzy and Abram. .etc. to my son Thomas Rives.... slaves, vie. Dafu, Patience, Coope,
    David, Isaac and Sally...etc. To my grand Children Timothy Dupree Jesse Dupree Lewis Dupree and Mary Ann Dupree ....slaves, vie. Cynthia, Bob, Hannah, and Peter, Jenny the woman and her three children Chloe, Liza and Dolly the last (Dated 12 Oct. 1816) four are now in my possession and I
    intend they shall remain so during my natural life (if they live)...and at my decease ... to be divided...etc...and Cynthia, Bob, Hannah and Peter together with their increase to be placed, under the direction of Major Francis Boykin for the only use and
    behoof of the said before mentioned Grand Children and to be equally divided among them at the time their father's Estate is divided--- Also, I give to Nathaniel W. Stewart and his Wife, Mary Stewart during their natural lives three negro, Slaves Tabb, Cherry and
    Child....and at their decease to be equally divided between Timothy Dupree Jesse Dupree, Lewis Dupree, and Mary Ann Dupree or those of them living. Also I give to Doctor John Mathis and his Wife Priscilla a negro girl named Winney and Stephen her child...etc.

  • He married Lavinia Adeline Daves, daughter of Joel Thomas Daves and Lavinia Peeples, on 27 April 1825 in Georgia.
  • In 1832, the Daves-Dupree families moved to Stewart County, Georgia, where Lewis joined the militia and cavalry against the Indians. The "Pitts Caravan" formed in April 1842. The Daves-Dupree families left Georgia for Cedar Hill (Chapel Hill), Texas. Following flooding of the Brazos and sickness, the families moved up "The Camino Real Road" on the Montgomery Line, where they built a cedar dog trot cabin.
  • Lewis Dupree appeared in the US federal census of 1 June 1840 in Stewart County, Georgia.
  • Lewis Dupree and Lavinia Adeline Daves appeared in the US federal census of 1 June 1850 in Grimes County, Texas, enumerated next to his brother Jusse.. Other members of the household included Jesse G. T. Dupree, Martha G. P. Dupree, James F. Dupree, Samuel Francis Dupree, Rebecca Adeline Caroline Dupree and Robert Peeples Dupree. According to at least one researcher, the Grimes/Montgomery county line ran through his property.
  • He was a farmer, according to the 1850 census.
  • Lewis Dupree died on 23 August 1855 death having been hastened by his old Indian wound.
  • His wife Lavinia Adeline Daves became a widow at his death.
  • He was interred at the Lewis Dupree graveyard, Montgomery County, Texas, on the county line knoll, overlooking Kings Branch and the Dupree plantation.
  • Lewis Dupree's will is summarized as follows:; Wife, Lavinia A. Dupree - all property, real and personal, to be used and controlled by her - during the term of natural life if so long she remain a widow, subject however to the special bequest hereinafter made; - In event of her death or marriage, property to be divided between all my children, equally - if she marries, then she to receive a child's portion. Sons: Franklin G. and Joel Reed Dupree - already each has received a negro boy on arrival at legal age. Each of my other children to receive same as they arrive at legal age or marry - one good sound and likely negro boy or girl not exceeding 20 years old nor less than 16. Executors to set apart sufficient sum for all children's education before division of the whold estate is made. Probate Court to have nothing more to do with settlement of estate than is required by law, etc. Executors: My beloved wife, Lavinia D. Dupree and my son, Franklin G. Dupree. Witnesses: Ivin R. Randle, Lewis Dupree (Seal), James L. Green.
