  • It is an educated guess that he arrived in the Port of New York (identified as labourer Georges Surber, age 21, from Baden) on 30 April 1884 aboard the SS Canada from Havre, traveling aft between-decks.
  • He married Catharina Karl, daughter of Georg Anton Karl and Sophia Dexheimer, on 11 July 1889 in Manhattan, New York, at St. Luke's Evangelical Lutheran Church, West 42nd Street, with Pastor Georg F. W. Busse officiating. The marriage was witnessed by Jacob Karl and Linus Molz.
  • He was naturalized on 30 July 1889 at New York witnessed by Linus Molz. In the Superior Court of New York County, while living at 432 Fifth Street, renouncing his allegiance to the Emperor of Germany. At the time of his naturalization he was employed as a cook.
