- Marcus Oldswager was born circa 23 October 1847 in Holstein based on ages reported in censuses, although transcription of Michigan death record has 23 October 1845.
- George Oldswager and Catherine Schrum arrived in the Port of New York on 24 April 1857, accompanied by Marcus Oldswager, Dudley M. Oldswager, John Oldswager and Lena C. Oldswager from Hamburg, traveling in steerage between decks aboard the Bark Sir Isaac Newton (master H. Paap), carrying about 119 passengers.

- The following appeared on 17 July 1903 in The Flint Daily Journal: George Oldswager died this morning at 5 o'clock at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Andrew Hibbard, 1223 Grand Traverse street, aged 77 years. The deceased was born in Germany and prior to coming to this city a year and a half ago lived on a farm in Montrose. Besides the daughter named he leaves three sons: Dudley, of this city; Marcus, of New York state, and Henry, of Charlotte, Mich. The funeral will be held from the house on Sunday morning at 9 o'clock and the remains will be taken to Montrose for interment.
