  • The following appeared on 24 September 1890 in the Niagara Falls Gazette: The funeral of the late John C. Mayle took place from the residence of his parents, No. 313 Third street, at 2:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon. The services were conducted by the Rev. George F. Rosenmoller, rector of St. Peter's Church. The floral tributes were numerous and beautiful, most noticeable among them being a handsome fire-hydrant, from the members of the Mayle Hose Company. The bearers were selected from this Company. The Cataract, Niagara and Mayle Hose Companies marched in the funeral procession, which was very large. The interment was made in the family plot in Oakwood.

  • The following appeared on 9 May 1931 in the Niagara Falls Gazette: Mrs. Philomena Mayle, 749 Third street, one of the oldest and most highly esteemed women of Niagara Falls, died at her home at 12:15 o'clock this morning. She was 85 years old. She had been ill about two months. [:CR;]      Mrs. Mayle was born in Delhi, Ohio, on March 15, 1847. She came to Niagara Falls more than 50 years ago and had lived here ever since. Her husband, the late Louis F. Mayle, for many years in the brewery business here, died in September, 1907. [:CR;]      Mrs. Mayle was much interested in the progress of the community which she had watched develop from village days. She was widely known and held in high esteem and news of her death today was widely mourned. She possessed a charitable and loving disposition which secured for her a large number of friends. She was a devout member of St. Mary's church. [:CR;]      Mrs. Mayle is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Frank Hall, Mrs. Robert Kaiser and Miss Grace J. Mayle, of this city, and Mrs. H. C. Leonhardt, of North Tonawanda, and four sons, Edward H. Mayle and albert T. Mayle, of this city; George W. Mayle, of Los Angeles, and Francis C. Mayle of Newark, N. J. [:CR;]      The funeral will be held from the family home at 9:30 a. m., Monday. Following high mass of requiem at St. Mary's church at 10 a. m., burial will be in Oakwood cemetery.

  • The following appeared on 29 May 1931 in the Niagara Falls Gazette: The will of Mrs. Philomena Mayle, well known Falls woman, who died here May 9, was filed for probate with County Judge-surrogate William A. Gold, in surrogate's court, at City Hall, today, and Albert T. and Grace J. Mayle, son and daughter of the decedent, were named executors.
         According to the terms of the will, the estate, consisting of $10,000 and upwards personal property, will be divided equally among the sons and daughters and one grandson of Mrs. Mayle. These are, besides the executors, Elizabeth M. Hall, E. H. Mayle, Edith Kaiser, of this city; George W. Mayle, Los Angeles, California; Matilda E. Leonhardt, North Tonawanda; Francis C. Mayle, Newark, N. J., and George W. Homer, San Antonio, Texas, the grandson. A codicil to the will bequeaths the household furniture of the decedent to Grace Mayle and gives her the use of the family home until sold by the executors.
