- Lena Sierk became a widow at the 2 November 1939 death of her husband John Schlenker.
- The following appeared on 2 November 1939 in The Attica News: John Schlenker, who was born Feb. 6, 1863, the son of Martin and Mary Gohler Schlenker, at Orangeville, died at his home on the Creek road, Wednesday morning, Nov. 1, 1939, after a long illness. If Mr. Schlenker had lived until Feb. 6, 1940, he and his wife would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
Fifty-six years ago Mr. Schlenker, who came to work at the farm home where he spent the rest of his life, was married in Bennington in 1890. He had been a life-long member and staunch supporter of the Attica Presbyterian church.
Besides his wife, Lena Sierk Schlenker, he is survived by one daughter, Mrs. John D. Turrel, a granddaughter, Mrs. Walter George of Strykersville, and a grandson, John D. Turrel, Jr., a student at Cornell University.
Funeral services will be held at his late home Friday at 2:00 p. m. Burial will be effected in Forest Hill cemetery, Attica, with Rev. Frank W. Terrell officiating. - Lena Sierk died on 22 January 1945 at age 76 in New York.

- The following appeared on 25 January 1945 in The Attica News: Mrs. Lena S. Schlenker, 76, of the Creek road, died Monday night, Jan. 22, 1945, after a long illness. The widow of John Schlenker, who died several years ago, Mrs. Schlenker was born at Bennington on April 6, 1868, daughter of the late Henry and Elsie Oldschwager Sierk.
She was a lifelong member of the Presbyterian Church and is survived by a daughter, Mrs. John D. Turrel Sr., of Attica; two sons, Fred of Attica and George of Kansas City, Mo; two sisters, Mrs. Elsie Ripstein of Bennington and Mrs. Anna VanValkenburg of Attica; two grandchildren, Mrs. Walter George and John D. Turrel, Jr. of Warsaw and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock this Thursday afternoon from her late home with the Rev. Frank W. Terrell, pastor of the Varysburg Community Church, officiating. Buria will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
