- He married Julia Penner say 1857.
- Louis Peter Dexheimer appeared in the 1859 Manhattan, New York, City Directory at 256 Broadway under "Eating Houses.".
- Louis Peter Dexheimer and Julia Penner appeared in the US federal census of 1 June 1860 in New York City, Borough of Manhattan, New York, and also waiter Louis Silkins and cook Mary Wier, living next to Louis' sister Kate Derlick.. Other members of the household included Albert Dexheimer.
- He was operated a restaurant, according to the 1860 census.
- Wife of Louis is recorded as Mary in the 1860 census, which may either be an error or an indication that between that time and the 1870 census he remarried.
- He was naturalized on 5 October 1860 at the Superior Court, New York County, New York. At the time of his naturalizationn, he was living at 141 Grand Avenue in Manhattan, occupation merchant.
- Louis Peter Dexheimer appeared in the 1869 New York City, Borough of Manhattan, New York, City Directory at 104 West Houston operating an eatinghouse..
- Louis Peter Dexheimer and Julia Penner, appeared in the US federal census of 1 June 1870 in Manhattan, New York, at 104 West Houston Street enumerated next to Louis' sister Kate Derlick, with real estate valued at $7,000 and personal property valued at $2,000. Also in the household were a waiter, two domestic servants, and five apparent boarders.. Other members of the household included Albert Dexheimer, Adolph Dexheimer, Philipp Dexheimer and Eva Anna Maria Knecht.
- He was operated a lager beer saloon in 1870, according to the earlier 1870 census enumeration, and a restaurant according to the later enumeration.
- Louis Peter Dexheimer and Julia Penner appeared in the US federal census of 1 June 1880 in Manhattan, New York, at 104 West Houston Street and two boarders.. Other members of the household included Albert Dexheimer, Adolph Dexheimer and Jacob Karl.
- He was was operating a restaurant, according to the 1880 census.
- He sponsored the naturalization of Philipp Dexheimer on 7 October 1880 at Court of Common Pleas, New York City, New York.
- Louis Peter Dexheimer died on 3 September 1887 at age 63 in Thompson, Sullivan County, New York, at Brundage Bailey Boarding House presumably on holiday in the Catskills. His occupation was recorded as "druggist" on the death certificate.
- Julia Penner became a widow at his death.
- He was interred at Green-Wood Cemetery, Brooklyn, Kings County, New York, and his remains were removed from that cemetery on 9 January 1896. The location of his reinterment has yet to be discovered. It was not Fairview Cemetery in Bergen County, New Jersey, as earlier reported.
- Green-Wood Cemetery Grave 1030 in Lot 17245 was purchased on 3 November 1872 for burial of Peter Dexheimer. Also buried in the grave: Jacob Dexheimer (brother of Peter's father) buried 7 June 1877 and Kate Derlick (Peter's daughter) interred 15 January 1889. Remains of Louis P. Dexheimer (Peter's son) were interred in the grave 6 September 1887 and removed from the cemetery 9 January 1896. Photos by Cathy Surber of the location of the unmarked grave.
- It is possible that Peter Bauer, or his wife Elizabeth, was related in some way to either the Dexheimers or the Derlicks.
