- Jesse B. McCaleb was born on 26 June 1827 in Hickman County, Tennessee.
- He married Darcus Cude, daughter of Timothy Wright Cude and Serena Johnson, on 24 November 1847 in Montgomery County, Texas, and Jesse's brother George married Dorcas' sister Mary McCaleb.
- Jesse B. McCaleb and Darcus Cude appeared in the US federal census of 1 June 1850 in Montgomery County, Texas. Other members of the household included Alfred Jackson McCaleb and Zill McCaleb.
- He was a farmer, according to the 1850 census.
- Jesse McCaleb contracted to purchase from C. B. Stewart, on 2 January 1855, 131-1/3 acres in the James Edward League, which included a Boat Yard and Cotton Shipping Point, with rights of way having previously been granted to Green Wood, James M. Lewis, and Zill McCaleb.
- On Sunday, 27 January 1856, Green Wood recorded in his plantation daily account book: "Sent help to Load Mr Jesse McCalebs boat, river up."
- On Sunday, 3 February 1856, Green Wood recorded in his plantation daily account book: "Judge Goldthwaite came this evening." A few days earlier, on 27 January, Green Wood sent hands to help to load Jesse McCaleb's river boat. J. E. McCaleb was listed as "agent" for the Goldthwaite plantation in the 1860 census slave schedule.

-- with 102 slaves (36 of whom were age 10 and younger, and 12 of whom were age 60 and older) and 15 slave houses, with J. E. McCaleb acting as his agent. - Jesse B. McCaleb became a widower at the 1 June 1871 death of his wife Darcus Cude.
- He married Emma Baldwin Williams on 17 July 1872 in Montgomery County, Alabama.
- Jesse B. McCaleb became a widower at the 15 March 1884 death of his wife Emma Baldwin Williams.
- Jesse B. McCaleb died on 6 July 1888 at age 61.
- He was interred at Cude Cemetery, Montgomery County, Texas.
