John McNeese Jr.

  • John McNeese Jr. was born on 28 March 1787 in Lenoir County, North Carolina.
  • He married Elizabeth Parrott, daughter of Jacob Parrott Sr. and Penelope House, circa 1812, and after her death married her first cousin Elizabeth Parrott; their fathers Jacob and Simon were brothers.
  • John McNeese Jr. became a widower at the circa 1837 death of his wife Elizabeth Parrott.
  • He married Elizabeth M. Parrott, daughter of Simon Bright Parrott and Bramley Murphrey, say 1840, Elizabeth was the first cousin his first wife Elizabeth Parrott; their fathers Simon and Jacob were brothers.
  • John McNeese Jr. and Elizabeth M. Parrott appeared in the US federal census of 1 June 1850 in Washington County, Texas, and also 8-year-old W McNeese, who probably was William Parrott.. Other members of the household included John McNeese.
  • The following appeared on 9 April 1852 in the [Galveston, Texas] Weekly Journal [from the Washington Lone Star]: We learn that, on the day before yesterday, Mr. Simons, living near Rock Island ferry, in attempting to capture a runaway negro was compelled to resort to the means of shooting of him. The shot, we understand was in the leg; so severely fracturing the bone of the same that immediate amputation was necessary in order to save the negroe's life. The slave is the property of a Mr. McNeese. [ELV note: Owner was likely either John or Parrott McNeese.]
  • On 19 September 1852, John L. McNees executed a deed bequeathing to his son Edwin his title and interest in "Land & Mill . . . on Cristal Creek," then owned by him and his son Ivy McNeese, to come into Edwin's possession upon the death of his father.
  • On 21 March 1853, John and Ivy McNeese purchased from James Knight for $4,000 a parcel of land in Mongomery District on the east bank of the main San Jacinto River, with Crystal Creek running through. . . . [FINISH]
