- The following appeared on 12 January 1929 in the Dallas Morning News: Funeral services for Miss Emma Halley, 74, teacher in Dallas public schools for thirty-five years -- thirty-two as a principal -- who died Friday morning, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at her home, 3709 Haynie avenue, with Dr. L. N. D. Wells, pastor of the East Dallas Christian Church, officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. Miss Halley requested, shortly before her death, that no flowers be sent to the funeral, and relatives have asked friends to observe her with. Five years ago, Miss Halley resigned from the schools because of failing health. She came to Dallas Mortuary Notice, Dallas forty years ago from Salado, her family home. Before then she had taught at Salado College, where her brother, the late Dr. R. B. Halley, also was a teacher. He later taught at the State Normal at Huntsville for thirty years. Miss Halley began teaching here at the Oak Grove School, the first brick school building in the city, and later became principal. After the name was changed to City Park School, she remained with the school. In these schools, she gave thirty-one years of service. During the year before she discontinued teaching she was in the Ruthmede School. Miss halley became a charter member of the Central Christian Cnurch upon coming to the city and later was a charter member of East Dallas Christian Church. She was a Sunday School teacher and active in other branches of work at the latter church in which she retained her membership until her death. She is survived by a sister, Mrs. Mimmie Halley Smith; a brother, Dr. W. B. Halley of Ballinger; three nieces, Miss Eugenia Smith, Dallas; Miss Ruth Wilkirson of Venus, and Mrs. Ray Adamson, Los Angeles; and five nephews, Dr. R. L. Ramsdell, Dallas; Dr. Charles Ramsdell, Austin; Dr. Marshall Ramsdell, San Antonio; Fred Ramsdell, Philadelphia, and Myers Wilkirson, Venus. Active pallbearers will be Lanham Croley, Judge Paine L. Bush, Arthur C. Rubey, Ray McDowell, C. M. Moore and J. E. Forrester.
