People from a wide area of West Texas attended funeral services in the First Methodist Church. The Rev. Woodrow W. Adcock conducted the rites. Born June 18, 1888, Erwin came here from Forney in 1906. He was associated with a cotton oil company about forty years and for the last fifteen years had been president of Scurry County's only bank. Surviving Erwin are his wife; three daughters, Mrs. Dan Ritter of Alpine and Miss Eleanor Erwin and Mrs. R. C. Miller of Snyder; two sons, Marshall Erwin of Snyder and Austin D. Erwin Jr., and a brother, Frank Erwin of New York City.
