  • On Tuesday, 17 December 1861, Green Wood recorded in his plantation daily account book: "Mr Williamson commenced overseeing today."
         John Hooper Williamson was employed as overseer of Greenwood plantation commencing 17 December 1861, and his name last appears in the daily account books as overseer for the week of 20 December 1863.
  • On a blank page amongst September 1862 daily accounts, Green Wood recorded: "Received of Green Wood two hundred dollars with interest at ten percent to the 1st of January next, July 27th 1862, signed J. H. Williamson." "Settled January 1st 1863."
  • On Monday, 13 October 1862, Green Wood recorded in his plantation daily account book: "Engaged Mr J. H. Williamson. Give him $700 and his meal and he finds himself in everything else."
  • On Tuesday, 14 October 1862, Green Wood recorded in his plantation daily account book: "Assigned a Note as security for Jack H. Williamson to John H. Williamson for $250, put the humbers on the bills corner of the Note."
  • On Monday, 20 October 1862, Green Wood recorded in his plantation daily account book: "Mr W and nearly all hands with three wagons gathering Mrs Wiley Green,s corn crop."
  • On Wednesday, Green Wood recorded in his plantation daily account book: "Sent Frank with Waggon up to the Malitia Camp," and on Saturday, "Frank returned from Malitia Camp with Waggon."
  • On Sunday, 30 August 1863, Green Wood recorded in his plantation daily account book: J. H. Williamson left for Malitia camp 26th."
  • On Monday, 14 September 1863, Green Wood recorded in his plantation daily account book: "Mr Williamson left for the Malitia Camp."
  • On Wednesday, 21 October 1863, Green Wood recorded in his plantation daily account book: "Paid J. H. Williamson my note for last years services."
  • On Sunday, 25 October 1863, Green Wood recorded in his plantation daily account book: "Mr J. H. Williamson started to Hempstead to Malitia Camp this morning, sent Frank with him to bring back mules."
  • J. H. Williamson of Montgomery County enrolled in Company D, 4th Infantry Regiment, Texas State Troops, on 29 January 1864 at "Camp in the Field," by J. W. Campbell. He appeared on a list dated 1 February 1864, at Camp Can[e]y, with the notation "Dt. Dec 1 as Courier."
         On 14 June 1864, J. H. Williamson entered Confederate service with Company C, David Smith Terry's Regiment Dismounted Cavalry (mustered into Confederate service 6 July 1864) with the rank of 2nd lieutenant dated 12 May 1864. He appears on the regimental return as a Jr 2nd lieutenant for the month of March 1865, stationed in Austin County.
         It is worthy of note that amongst the NARA Texas CSA records in John H. Williamson's "packet" easily accessible today, there is a misplaced record of a 9 March 1865 hospital admission in Richmond, Virginia, for another soldier with a similar name, Private J. H. Williamson, Company E, 4th Texas Regiment, which actually was John Bell Hood's 4th Infantry Regiment, and not the 4th Regiment of Texas State Troops.
  • On Saturday, 27 February 1864, Green Wood recorded in his plantation daily account book: Settled with J. H. Williamson, paid him $700 for his services for 1863." And in the book of Misc. Financial & Slave Records, the same date, is an accounting for John Hooper Williamson (for wool, cotton, stirrup leather, cattle sold & expenses incurred), amounting to $73.15. And: "Received of Green Wood seven hundred Dollars for my services as overseer for 1863, February 27th 1864, [signed] J. H. Williamson."

Also in the household were Amanda Morgan, age 56, possibly John's sister, and Herbert Morgan, age 13.

  • John Hooper Williamson and Sallie W. Smith appeared in the US federal census of 1 June 1900 in Huntsville, Walker County, Texas. Other members of the household included Walter C. Williamson, S. R. B. Williamson and Henry Randolph Williamson. Also in the household was niece Leona Eaves, age 22.
  • John Hooper Williamson died on 16 May 1905 at age 81.
  • His wife Sallie W. Smith became a widow at his death.
  • He was interred at New Montgomery Cemetery, Montgomery, Montgomery County, Texas.
