He was born Sept. 6, 1922, in Russiaville, a son of Warren and Mary (Clark) Quakenbush. On April 4, 1948, in Lafayette, he married Shirley Keithley, who survives.
He graduated from Russiaville High School in 1940. He retired from Continental Steel Corp. in Kokomo in 1980 after 30 years of service.
He served in the Army from Nov. 18, 1942, to Dec. 21, 1945.
He was a member of Lynn Friends Church, and a 50-year member of the Russiaville Masonic Lodge F&AM 82 and Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis. He enjoyed fishing.
Surviving are his wife, Shirley Quakenbush, Russiaville; his children, Linda Drake and husband Phil, Kokomo, Carl Quakenbush and wife Wanita, Murfreesboro, Tenn., and Carolyn Stinnett and husband Ron, Falls of the Rough, Ky; two sisters, Helen Rubush and husband Jim, Forest, and Eleanor Martin and husband Eugene, Russiaville; seven grandchildren, George Drake and wife Lindsay, Gary Drake and wife Kris, Cheryl Smith and husband Preston, Ashley Quakenbush, Alex Quakenbush, Lisa Ross and husband Keith and Becky King and husband Rex and seven great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, William Quakenbush, and three sisters, Mildren Shuck Hawn, Betty Bingaman and Barbara Hendershot.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Stout & Son Funeral Home, 200 E. Main St., Russiaville, with Pastor Justin Weber officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memory Gardens Cemetery, with military honors by Kokomo VFW Military Rites Team. Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home, with a Masonic service 7:45.
