- John N. Neal and Mary Jane Campbell appeared in the US federal census of 1 June 1850 in Pike County, Georgia. Other members of the household included Thomas Benton Neal, James Henry Neal, Andrew Jackson Neal, Louisa J. Neal, Susan Neal, Emma Rebecca Neal, Ella Neal and Augusta Campbell Neal.
- Joseph H. Murrell and Mary Ann Neal appeared in the US federal census of 1 June 1860 in Claiborne Parish, Louisiana. Other members of the household included Thomas Benton Neal, Leila Murrell, M. E. Murrell and John Murrell. Also in the household were two other clerks.
- He was employed as a clerk in J. H. Murrell's store, according to the 1860 census.
- The following appeared on 16 September 1886 in The Marietta Journal: The executors of the estate of the late John Neal, of Atlanta, have concluded to establish a new bank in that city, with capital of $200,000 or more. The executors of the estate are Messrs. John Keely and E. H. Thornton, sons-in-law of Mr. Neal, and T. B. Neal, his son.

Games and contests were introduced for entertainment in rooms attractively decorated with garden flowers. Prizes were awarded to Mrs. D. G. Stewart and Mrs. Otis Priest.
After the gifts were opened, refreshments were served to Mesdames G. C. Gilbert, C. D. Mays, Olena Hickerson, Otis Priest, A. M. Fyfe, Jack Fyfe, Dick Hawkins, A. D. Duniven, C. W. Williams, Fred Williams, Henry Rose, J. J. Armstrong, W. Y. Alexander, Evelyn Alexander, G. Wright, G. K. Weaver.
