- He married Martha Ann (?) circa 1845.
- William Hopper and Martha Ann (?) appeared in the US federal census of 1 June 1850 in Marion County, Alabama. Other members of the household included Nancy Hopper, James Hopper and Francis M. Hopper. Also in the household is 7-year-old Edy Hopper, possibly a niece.
- He was a farmer, according to the 1850 census.
