• The following appeared on 21 July 1917 in the New York Herald: Mr. Stephen Howland Brown, member of an old New York family and of the brokerage firm of Vernon C. Brown & Co., died yesterday morning of heart disease. Mr. Brown's residence was at No. 23 West Fifty-first street.
       Mr. Brown was born in this city and was in his fifty-fourth year. He leaves his wife and one daughter, Mrs. Franklin S. Richardson, of this city. His wife was Miss Grace V. Quartley.
       Mr. Brown was a member of the Union, Turf and Field, Metropolitan, Automobile of America, Racquet and Tennis, Richmond County Country, Seawanhaka-Corinthian Yacht and the Piping Rock clubs.
