  • The following appeared on 6 July 1925 in The Binghamton Press: (Norwich, July 6) Funeral services were held this afternoon for Mrs. Loranette E. Tinker, who died Friday night in Norwich Memorial hospital within an hour after beingt hit by the auto of Joseph H. O'Brien, a Philadelphia rubber goods salesman, when she attempted to cross South Broad street ahead of the auto.
Mrs. Tinker started from the west side to the east side near the grocery store of Dennis G. Normide. She was probably watching a car backing away from the east curb and which Mr. O'Brien turned out to avoid as he was driving north enroute to Utica.
The approach of the second auto is believed to have disconcerted Mrs. Tinker, who in trying to avoid it stepped in front of the other auto. She was thrown down and caught between the fender and hood of the car. Mr. O'Brien stopped his auto and released the woman. He assisted in placing her in another auto and taking her to the hospital. Dr. John C. Lee found that her skull was fractured.
Mrs. Tinker was 51 years old, and was the wife of Henry A. Tinker. She was born in Plymouth, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Loring Cushman. She is survived by two sons, Howard and John, and a daughter, Frances, of this city. Another son, George, was drowned 12 years ago on the Fourth of July. She leaves one brother, Fred R. Cushman of Plymouth, and a sister, Mrs. Edwin Steere, who lives in Norwich.
After learning the circumstances of the accident, Coroner F. W. Wilcox of this city decided to hold an inquest, but on account of the absence of District Attorney Ward N. Truesdell over the holiday adjourned until some date later in the week. Apparently no blame attaches to Mr. O'Brien, who, by reason of frequent visits, has a number of friends in the city and upon his agreement to return if wanted, he was allowed to continue on his trip.
