         A native of Torrington, Conn., he served in the Marine Corps for more than 23 years. He was highly decorated, his medals including the Purple Heart, Bronze Star with Valor, Korean Service Medal and Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with palm. He was employed by Buf's and worked with grounds maintenance at the Marine Corp Air Station in Beaufort. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8760, Cooties, AmVets, NCOA and a charter member of the Purple Heart Association.
         Survivors: his wife, L. Elaine Emanuel of Beaufort; his mother, Julia Loving Emanuel of Los Angeles; a son, Michael Emanuel of Oklahoma City; two step-ons, Doyle Beaty Jr. of Dallas, Scott Beaty of Leigh High, Fla; a daughter, Cecelia Emanuel Heard of Oklahoma City; a brother, DeWitt Emanuel of Honolulu; four sisters, Shirley Emanuel of Boston, Diane Emanuel Percy of Torrington, Conn., Cynthia Emanuel of New York, Cecelia Emanuel Parrish of Los Angeles; and seven grandchildren.
         Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Anderson Funeral Home.
         Graveside service: 2 p.m. Wednesday in Beaufort National Cemetery with full military honors.
