Eliza P. Pegues
b. 11 February 1838, d. 2 July 1914
- Father: Malachi Pegues b. 6 June 1804, d. December 1849
- Mother: Ann Lindsay b. 13 October 1805, d. 27 September 1873
- Eliza P. Pegues was born on 11 February 1838 in Alabama.
- According to her death certificate (informant her son Ed), Eliza's father was S. R. Pegues, perhaps inspired by the fact that her eldest brother was named Samuel (?).
- Her name was recorded as Lucy L. in the 1850 census.
- Ann Lindsay appeared in the US federal census of 1 June 1850 in DeSoto Parish, Louisiana, enumerated next to her deceased husband's brother Charles. Other members of the household included Eliza P. Pegues, Samuel Lindsay Pegues, Claudius M. Pegues, Sarah Ann Pegues, Henrietta Pegues, Eveline M. Pegues, Eugene Pegues, Mary E. Pegues, Charlotte J. Pegues and Frances A. Pegues. It appears that daughters Eliza and Charlotte are identified in this census as Lucy and Catherine, respectively. And it is remotely possible that daughter Eliza/Lucy also is enumerated in the 1850 household of Malachi's brother Claudius in Washington County, Texas, as Elizabeth Pegues (age 22, born in South Carolina.)
- She married John H. Eastham on 25 November 1856 in DeSoto Parish, Louisiana.
- John H. Eastham and Eliza P. Pegues appeared in the US federal census of 1 June 1860 in DeSoto Parish, Louisiana. Also in the household were children Mary E. (age 3) and Claudius (1.)
- John H. Eastham and Eliza P. Pegues appeared in the US federal census of 1 June 1870 in Mansfield, DeSoto Parish, Louisiana. Other members of the household included Ann Lindsay, Mary E. Pegues and Charlotte J. Pegues. Also in the household were children Ella M. (age 12), Claude (10), John (8), James (4) and Francis (4 months). The conclusion that "Anell Pogwe" (age 64, born in North Carolina) is Eliza's mother Ann L. Pegues, and Mary (28) and Charlott (24) are Eliza's sisters, is based upon persuasive circumstantial evidence.
- John H. Eastham and Eliza P. Pegues appeared in the US federal census of 1 June 1880 in San Marcos, Hays County, Texas. Also in the household were children John H. (age 18), Thomas C. (17), J. Malachi (14), Fannie A. (10), Edward E. (8), Antoinette H. (6), twins Alfred R. and Albert L. (4), and Charles P. (10 months.)
- John H. Eastham and Eliza P. Pegues appeared in the US federal census of 1 June 1900 in Beaumont, Jefferson County, Texas. Also in the household were children Edward (age 27), Albert B. (25) and C. P. (20.)
- Eliza P. Pegues became a widow at the 1904 death of her husband John H. Eastham.
- Eliza P. Pegues appeared in the US federal census of 15 April 1910 in Beaumont, Jefferson County, South Carolina, at 1617 College Street enumerated in the household of her son Malachi. Also in the household were Malachi's wife Cora and their children, and Eliza's son Ed.
- Eliza P. Pegues died on 2 July 1914 at age 76 in Beaumont, Jefferson County, Texas, at 384 Travis.
- She was interred at Magnolia Cemetery, Beaumont, Jefferson County, Texas.
