Accompanying Mrs. Wood on her return to Waco were Miss Betsey Wood, a Baylor sophomore, her sister, Mrs. Brad Harris, and Mr. Harris, a member of the Baylor football team. - John Paul Wood died on 17 November 1961 at age 60.
- His wife Catharine M. Chouffet became a widow at his death.
