- Andrew Jackson Thompson was born on 28 May 1816 in Sumter County, South Carolina.
- He married Mary Elizabeth Tabb, daughter of John Tabb and Lucy Crenshaw, on 18 December 1838 in Dallas County, Alabama, by license issued the 17th, with S. M. Nelson, GM, officiating.
- Andrew Jackson Thompson and Mary Elizabeth Tabb appeared in the US federal census of 1 June 1850 in Rascoes, Dallas County, Alabama, enumerated not far from Mary Elizabeth's parents.. Other members of the household included Mary Eugenia Thompson. Also in the household were daughters M. E. (age 6) and Eudora L. (6 months), and sons M. E. (4) and S. J. (2).
- On Friday, 12 November 1852, Green Wood recorded in his plantation daily account book: "Mr Jackson Thompson, Traylor, & Tab & T McGar came this evening."
- Andrew Jackson Thompson became a widower at the 13 March 1860 death of his wife Mary Elizabeth Tabb.
