  • The following was published online by Patterson Greer Funeral Home: Lorene Metcalf, 93, of Oklahoma City, formerly of Hollis, passed away at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City, Saturday, July 28, 2007.
Lorene Ward was born April 27, 1914, to the union of Fay Dunlap and Carl Ward of Wellington, Texas. She had two brothers, James Neal and Carl Ed Ward and one sister, Leslie Velma. She accepted Christ as her personal savior at an early age. “Rene”, as she was called by friends, served her church faithfully through the prayer ministry of the Women’s Missionary Union, through singing in the church choir, and through teaching in Sunday School.
On October 1, 1933, she was united in marriage to the late Paul Edward Metcalf and made a home in Hollis, Oklahoma, where they graduated from Hollis High School in 1933. Early in the marriage Lorene did the bookkeeping for Paul’s grocery stores, her family’s bakery, and sewed for the public and her family. To this union were born two sons, Robert Paul Metcalf and Jack Edd Metcalf, whom she leaves to cherish her memory as well as 6 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Her brother, James Neal Ward survives her and lives in Kemp, Texas.
Lorene Metcalf was a God fearing woman, a praying mother, and a Christian lady of strong faith upon whom her family could call in times of crisis and great need. She prayed incessantly for her family, her pastor, her church, and for missionaries around the world. She was a woman of strong character, great compassion, and keen wisdom. Her achievements are a result of her reverence for God and her undying love for her Lord.
In Lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials be made to the First Baptist Church of Hollis in memory of Lorene Metcalf.
Funeral services for Lorene Metcalf will be held 11:00 am, Friday, August 3, 2007, at First Baptist Church in Hollis with Dr. Rex Horne officiating. Interment will follow at Fairmount Cemetery in Hollis under the direction of our funeral home in Hollis, Patterson Greer Funeral Home.
