  • The following appeared on 17 October 1958 in The Amarillo Globe-Times: (Hollis, Oct. 17) Funeral rites for Carl Ward, 68, of Hollis, were conducted today in the First Baptist Church here by the Rev. Alfred Woodward, pastor.
         Burial was in Fairmount Cemetery here, under the direction of Coley Funeral Home of Hollis.
         Mr. Ward moved here in 1924 from Wellington. He died Wednesday at his home. He was born in Clay County, Ala.
         Survivors include his wife, Pearl of the home; a daughter, Mrs. Paul Metcalf of Hollis; two sons, Dr. Carl Edward Ward of Sayre, Okla., and J. N. Ward of Dallas; two brothers, Neal Ward of Hollis and Ethreidge Ward; three sisters, Mrs. H. H. Horton of Muskogee and Mrs. J. W. Parks and Mrs. W. H. Worth, and five grandchildren.
  • The following appeared on 6 February 2002 in The Sayre Record & Beckham Conty Democrat: Funeral services for Carl E. Ward will be held Thursday, February 7, 2002 at 1:30 p.m. in the Sayre First Christian Church with Marvin Garrison officiating. Burial will be under the direction of Rose Chapel Funeral Service.
         Carl, the son of Fay and Carl Ward, was born October 8, 1922 in Lily, Texas and passed away February 2, 2002 in the Integris Baptist Medical Center, Oklahoma City, OK at the age of 79 years, three months and 24 days.
         Carl moved with his parents to Hollis, OK in 1925. He graduated from Hollis High School in 1941. He entered the United States Air Force and served his country during World War II. After his discharge he went to college and graduated Southwestern State College and later from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee. After college he moved to Sayre in 1950 to start his practice.
         He was married to Laura Anne Windle at Sayre, OK on May 29, 1954 where they continued to make their home. Carl was an avid golfer and had served on the golf course board. He was a member of the First Christian Church, Sayre Chamber of Commerce and Kiwanis.
         He was preceded in death by his parents and one infant sister.
         He is survived by his wife, Anne, of the home; one daughter, Carla Scull and husband, Dave of Salt Lake City, Utah; two sons, David and Carol Ward of Honolulu, Hawaii and Jonathan Ward of Sayre; one sister, Lorene Metcalf of Oklahoma City; one brother, J. N. Ward of Cedar Creek Lake, TX; six grandchildren, Jennifer, Lyndsey, Erin, Lori, Scott and Kerri; and two great grandchildren.
