  • William J. Haus and Martha Y. (?) appeared in the US federal census of 1 April 1930 in Kortz, Chaffee County, Colorado. Other members of the household included Shayle Webster Smith, Dorian O. Haus, Walter J. Smith, Kent Larimer Smith and Kedric F. Smith. Walter Smith is also enumerated with his mother in Long Beach, California, apparently having gone there to find work.

         A memorial service was held March 27 at Eastminster Presbyterian Church, Wichita, Kan.
         He attended Salida public schools, graduating from Salida High School in 1944. In high school he was an outstanding member of the vocal music programs of John Held and was a varsity football player.
         Mr. Smith (known as “Webb” in Kansas) graduated from Denver University in 1950. He was a sports journalist and newsman in Wichita for many years before retirement several years ago.
         Survivors include his wife, Joan Smith, Wichita, Kan; sons, Michael Rick Smith, Warren, Ohio; Kevin L. Smith, Waterville, Wash; Kenneth D. Smith, Fort Collins and Stewart R. Smith, East Wenatchee, Wash; brother, Kedrick Smith, Salida; sister, Kent Swift, Houston, Texas and grandchildren, Thea, Vera, Julian, Christopher, Sarah, Parker and Dorian.
    In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, 3113 S. Market, Wichita, KS 67202, or Alcoholics Anonymous, East Side Group, Box 780143, Wichita, KS 67278.
