• William Lockett was born circa 1823 in Georgia.

• William Lockett and Frances (?) appeared in the US federal census of 1 June 1850 in Crawford County, Georgia. Other members of the household included Benjamin G. Lockett.
• He was a planter, according to the 1850 census.
• William Lockett died on 9 April 1859.
• The following appeared on 12 April 1859 in The Weekly Georgia Telegraph: Death of William Lockett, Esq. This estimable citizen died at his residence, in this city, on Saturday last. The funeral ceremonies were performed at the Presbyterian Church on Sunday, Dr. Hardenburgh officiating. His remains were escorted to the grave by thye Masonic fraternity-- the Bibb Cavalry, and a large concourse of friends and acquaintances.
• The following appeared on 28 October 1865 in The Macon Daily Telegraph: Will be sold to the highest bidder, on the 2nd Tuesday in December, 1865, for Cash, the Plantation belonging to the estate of William Lockett, dec'd, situated in Crawford county, and adjoining Ewell Webb, John Dent and others-- the place contains 1,500 acres, is well improved in all respects, with accommodations for 35 hands, and is one of the best plantations in the county, either for cotton or grain. Also, all the Mules, Horses, Hogs, Cattle, Crops of all kinds, together with Wagons, Carts and farming and other utensils of all kinds.
