Margaret (?)

b. circa 1845
  • Margaret (?) was born circa 1845 in Alabama.
  • It is not yet known how Margaret Guilford fits into the larger family, but based on circumstantial evidence and her choice of the name Lina for her daughter indicate that she likely was a member of the household of William Barnes Wood, as was her husband Morris.
  • Following emancipation, Margaret (?) adopted the name Margaret Guilford according to her 1866 marriage record, but appears as Mitchell on son Dennis' death certificate, which may be evidence that she came the Wood household with Billy's marriage to Josie Mitchell..
  • She married Morris, son of Jack and Mary, on 9 September 1866 in Montgomery County, Texas, with John E. George, JP, officiating.
  • Morris and Margaret (?) appeared in the US federal census of 1 June 1870 in Danville, Montgomery County, Texas. Other members of the household included Virginia, Roxanna Jackson, Lina Jackson and Mariah. The parents of Mariah Jackson are as yet unknown.
  • Morris and Margaret (?) appeared in the US federal census of 1 June 1880 in Montgomery County, Texas. Other members of the household included Virginia, Roxanna Jackson, Lina Jackson, Morris Jackson, Gilbert Jackson, Zinnia Jackson, Eddie Jackson, Mary, Martha Baltrip, Johnie Baltrip and Jane. The parents of nephew Johnnie Baltrip are as yet unknown. It is an educated guess that Martha is Jane's daughter born in in 1870.
  • Margaret (?) became a widow at the between 1885 and 1900 death of her husband Morris.
  • Margaret (?) appeared in the US federal census of 1 June 1900 in Corsicana, Navarro County, Texas, at 820 North 4th Street.
