  • Orange and Hannah appeared in the US federal census of 1 June 1900 in Montgomery County, Texas. Other members of the household included Dora, Felix Jackson, Mary, George Venable and Sarah Gilford. Widows Mary Venable and Dora Mathews are identified as sisters, but they actually were sisters-in-law. Also in the household, identified as Gilford grandchildren, are Ella (age 14), Nathaniel (11), Orange (8), and Oscar (4). In fact, all of the grandchildren in the household are identified with the surname Gilford.
