Caroline

b. circa February 1863
  • Father: Daniel b. circa 1836
  • Mother: Sarah b. 11 March 1839
  • Caroline was born circa February 1863 in Texas probably at Green Mark Wood's place in Walker County.
  • Following emancipation, Caroline adopted the name Caroline Moses.
  • Daniel and Sarah appeared in the US federal census of 1 June 1870 in Danville, Montgomery County, Texas. Other members of the household included Caroline, Nancy, Creasy, Frank Moses and Andrew Moses. In this census, the family was enumerated under the surname "Mosely." Also in the household is Harriet Mosely, age 11. This conflicts with record of daughter Fanny, born and died in 1859, unless they were twins, but Greenwood records do not reflect this.
  • Although they were married as Daniel Moseley and Sarah Hancel, and in the 1870 census the family is enumerated with the surname Mosely, subsequent records identify family members with the surname "Moses."
  • Daniel and Sarah appeared in the US federal census of 1 June 1880 in Walker County, Texas. Other members of the household included Caroline, Hansel, Creasy, Frank Moses, Andrew Moses, Mahaley Moses, Elsy Moses and Victoria Moses.
  • Whisky Moses and Rose (?) appeared in the US federal census of 1 June 1900 in Walker County, Texas, enumerated not far from the households of Murpy and Jessie Harris. Other members of the household included Caroline, Victoria Moses. Victoria and Cara are identified as nieces, but the Moses connection has not yet been clarified.
