• Anderson was born on 19 April 1856 in Montgomery County, Texas, at Greenwood plantation near old Danville.
• Following emancipation, Anderson adopted the name Barnes.
• Following emancipation, Anderson adopted the name Anderson James.
• Angus and Jinney appeared in the US federal census of 1 June 1870 in Danville PO, Montgomery County, Texas. Other members of the household included Anderson, Cora, Colbert, Anaka and Jane. Also in the household were Wallace James, age 12, who is as yet unidentified. Three children who appear with Jinney as son and daughters in 1880 (Cherry, Charles & Lizzie) appear to be the same children enumerated with Milton James in 1870. It appears that Angus in 1870 may have been called Anderson in 1880.

• He married Ella Spiller, daughter of Jim Spiller and Rebecca (?), circa 1882.
• He married Ella (?) on 2 August 1891 in Montgomery County, Texas. Her name was recorded as Ella D. Dery, but it is not yet known whether that, or some variation, was her maiden name or from an earlier marriage..
• Anderson and Ella (?) appeared in the US federal census of 1 June 1900 in Montgomery County, Texas. Other members of the household included Martha Barnes, Willie Barnes, Mary L. Barnes, Nancy L. Barnes and Sleetie Barnes.
• Anderson became a widower at the 1891 death of his wife Ella Spiller.
• He was a farmer, according to the 1900 census.
• Anderson and Ella (?) appeared in the US federal census of 15 April 1910 in Montgomery County, Texas. Other members of the household included Mary L. Barnes, Nancy L. Barnes and Sleetie Barnes. Also in the household is adopted son "Hermon Spillow," likely kin of Anderson's first wife Ella Spiller.
• He was a farmer, according to the 1910 census.
• Anderson and Ella (?) appeared in the US federal census of 1 January 1920 in Montgomery County, Texas.
• He was a farmer, according to the 1920 census.
• Anderson died on 26 February 1923 at age 66 in Willis, Montgomery County, Texas.
• His wife Ella (?) became a widow at his death.
• Children of Jinney born between 1847 and 1864, were recorded by Green Wood.
