- Elisha Willis Winters was born on 12 August 1824 in Tennessee.
- He married Dorcas Mae Cude, daughter of William Arthur Cude Jr. and Eleanor Long, circa 1844, and Dorcas later married Elisha's brother Billington. It is worthy of note that Dorcas' sister Sylvania married Elisha's brother Benjamin, and that Dorcas' father married second Elisha's and Billington's sister Lillie.
