- He enlisted on 28 March 1862 at Danville, Montgomery County, Texas, as a private in Company, 24th Texas Cavalry Regiment, was captured at Arkansas Post, admitted to St. Mary's Hospital in Dalton Georgia, on 5 June 1863, and transferred to Atlanta.
- Alexander Murdock McGilvary died on 30 November 1864 at age 20 in Franklin, Williamson County, Tennessee.
