Mr. Fort, who lived at 2004 28th St. West, was born in Blount Springs and lived in Marion Junction before moving to Birmingham 47 years ago.
He was a graduate of Auburn University, at 32nd-degree Mason, a member of Zamora Shrine Temple and an elder of Ensley Highland Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Evelyn Fort; and two sons, George A. Fort of Gary, Ind., and Sam B. Fort Jr. of Bessemer. The family suggests that any memorials be made in the form of contributions to a favorite charity.
