John Oscar Stoneham

b. 29 April 1858, d. 28 May 1906
  • John Oscar Stoneham was born on 29 April 1858 in Texas.
  • John H. Stoneham and Elizabeth Eveline Greenwood appeared in the US federal census of 1 June 1860 in Plantersville, Grimes County, Texas, and also in the household, overseer Charles Kindle, age 24.. Other members of the household included John Oscar Stoneham, Joseph F. Stoneham, Edwin B. Stoneham and David Stoneham.
  • John H. Stoneham and Elizabeth Eveline Greenwood appeared in the US federal census of 1 June 1870 in Plantersville, Grimes County, Texas, apparently names of children are confused; Edwin would have been about age 15 and John about 12, although we find John 16 and Joseph 12, presumably calling Edwin Joseph and switching his age with John (?). And it has Howard as Harvey.. Other members of the household included John Oscar Stoneham, Edwin B. Stoneham, David Stoneham, George Stoneham, Henry Stoneham and Howard R. Stoneham.
  • He married Margaret Haynie, daughter of Thomas Jefferson Haynie and Edna Jane Uzzell, in 1880.
  • He was a farmer, according to the 1880 census.
  • John Oscar Stoneham and Margaret Haynie appeared in the US federal census of 1 June 1900 in Grimes County, Texas.
  • His wife Margaret Haynie became a widow at his death.
  • The following appeared on 29 May 1906 in the Bryan Morning Eagle: J. F. Parks, E. F. Parks and Miss Lillian Parks were called to Stoneham yesterday on account of the probably fatal illness of Mr. John Stoneham. Mr. Stoneham's three sons, who are students of Allen Academy, left for Stoneham Sunday night. Later--Prof. J. H. Allen received a telegram late yesterday afternoon announcing the death of Mr. Stoneham at 4:20 p. M. He will be buried at the corresponding hour today. Mr. Stoneham was a leading citizen of that section, a man of wealth, influence and christian character. The news of his death is received here with most profound regret.
  • John Oscar Stoneham died on 28 May 1906 at age 48.
  • He was interred at Stoneham Cemetery, Grimes County, Texas.
