  • The following appeared on 12 September 1897 in The Philadelphia Inquirer: Suit was begun yesterday in Common Pleas Court by Mabel Kaffenberger, a 6-year-old child, by her father, Louis Kaffenberger, against Joseph M. Serrill and John B. Serrill, to recover damages for serious burns received by the child from a street bon-fire. The plaintiff alleges that the defendants piled up a quantity of wood and shavings from new buildings which they owned on the roadway of Newkirk street, between Diamond street and Susquehanna avenue, ignited it, and left no watchman to warn passers-by of danger. The child was going along Newkirk street, when her clothing caught fire from flames blown against here by the wind and issuing from the bonfire. She was badly burned around the legs and hips. Louis Kaffenberger, father of the child, also began suit to recover damages for expenses and losses sustained by him in the same accident.
  • Louis Kaffenberger and Ida (?) appeared in the US federal census of 1 June 1900 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, at 2128 Newkirk Street.
