  • Frederick Schembs was born circa 1881.
  • Johann Adam Schembs and Katherine Hagerer appeared in the New York state census of 16 February 1892 in Buffalo, Erie County, New York. Other members of the household included Frederick Schembs, Albert Schembs, Peter Joseph Schembs, Adam John Schembs, Susan Schembs, Andrew Schembs, Arthur George Schembs, Bertha C. Schembs and Edna Schembs.
  • The following appeared on 27 January 1907 in The Buffalo Courier: Mrs. Kate Schembs, a well-known resident of the East East Side, wife of Adam Schembs, died at the family home, No. 286 Maple Street, Friday after an illness of a week. She was 52 years old. The funeral will be held at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon. Mrs. Schembs is survived by her husband and the following sons and daughters: Albert, Joseph, Adam, Susie, Frederick, Andrew, Arthur, Bertha, Edna, Edward, Pearl and Harry Schembs.

         The People of the State of New York, to Dewey A. Hagerer, Gertrude L. Hagerer and Joseph E. Hagerer and to Frederick Schembs, if living, and if he be dead, his heirs at law and next of kin, being descendants if any there be all of whom and all of whose namees, ages, places of residence and post office addresses are unknown and cannot after due diligence be ascertained.
         Whereas Christina Hagerer, late of the village of Springville in the county of Erie and state of New York, deceased, left a last will and testament bearing date the third day of January, 1908, purporting to relate to real and personal property, and the same having been propounded for probate by George C. Hagerer, exceutor therein named.
         You, and each of you, being the heirs and next of kin of said decedent, are therefore cited to appear before the surrogate of our said county of Erie, at the surrogate's office, in the city and county hall, in the city of Buffalo, in said county of Erie, on the 22nd day of September, 1914, at ten o'clock in the forenoon of that day, and attend the probate of said will. And if that any of the above named persons are infants, that they then and there show cause why a special guardian should not be appointed to appear, represent and act for them in the proceeding for the probate of said will.
         In testimony whereof, we have caused the seal of said surrogate's court to be hereunto affixed.
         Witness Hon. Louis B. Hart, surrogate of our said county of Erie, at Buffalo, N. Y., this 31st day of July, 1914.

Schembs, aged 79, husband of the late Katherine Schembs (nee Hagerer), father of Albert, Joseph, Adam, Susan, Fred, Andrew, Arthur, Edward, Harry and Mrs. John Barlow and Mrs. Harold Wiseman. Burial from the residence of his daughter, Mrs. Wiseman, No. 36 Landon street, Saturday at 3 o'clock. Deceased was a member of Mystic Star Lodge, I. O. O. F. [Note: Missing from the death notice is mention of daughter Bertha Scott.]

J., July 2, 1931, Albert Schembs, son of the late Adam J. and Katherine Hagerer; brother of Joseph P., Adam, Andrew, Arthur G., Edward, Harry A., Mrs. Susie Vrooman, Bertha C., Mrs. Edna Barlow of Buffalo; Frederick of Syracuse and Mrs. Pearl Wiseman of California. Funeral from William B. Kennedy's Funeral Establishment, 367 Delaware avenue, Monday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Friends invited.
  • The following appeared on 22 May 1937 in the Buffalo Courier-Express: [Died] May 20, 1937, Adam George [sic] Schembs, brother of Joseph P., Frederick, Andrew, Arthur G., Edward and Harry A. Schembs, Mrs. Susie Vrooman, Mrs. Hawley Scott, Mrs. John Barlow, Mrs. Harold Wiseman of Niles, Ca., and the late Adelbert [sic] Schembs. Funeral from the residence of his sister, Mrs. Susie Vrooman, 222 West Tupper Street, Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Friends are invited to attend.
  • The following appeared on 1 May 1944 in the Buffalo Courier-Express: Edward Schembs, 51, connected with the Buffalo Star, Buffalo Enquirer and The Courier-Express 35 years, died yesterday at Emergency Hospital, two weeks after undergoing an appendectomy. He lived at 76 Franklin St.
         Known as "Ed" to all his co-workers, he was a lifelong resident of Buffalo. In 1909 he became a truck driver for the Star, later joining the Enquirer. When the Courier merged with The Express in 1926, he began work in its mailing department, remaining there till his death.
         Surviving are five brothers, Joseph P., Frederick, Andrew, Arthur G. and Harry, and four sisters, Mrs. Susie Vroomon, Mrs. Pearl Wiseman of Cal., Mrs. Hawley Scott and Mrs. John Barlow. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p. m. tomorrow at Thomas V. Ray Funeral Home, 465 Franklin St. Burial will be in Pine Hill.
