  • The following appeared on 1 November 1882 in the Niagara Falls Gazette: Last evening the residence of Mr. and Mrs. F. Wiedenmann, of Grove Av., Suspension Bridge, was the scene of one of the grandest social events that has occurred in this locality for a number of years. The event was the marriage of their daughter Barbara to Mr. Christian Fink. About 300 invitations had been issued to the firends and acquaintances of the contracting parties, and as a result the spacious residence was completely filled at the time of the ceremony.
         Rev. J. G. Dietrich officiated in a very able manner making the customary marriage rites of unusual interest. The newly wedded couple were the recipients of many congratulations from those present. A bountiful repast was then heartily enjoyed which fully sustained the enviable reputation which Mr. and Mrs. Wiedenmann have gained for treating their guests in a hospitable manner. Early in the evening the Union Reed Band, of which Mr. Fink is the leader, put in an appearance and serenaded their chief. Their arrival was heralded with sky rockets and colored fires which in addition to the Chinese lanterns hung about in trees, produced a sight long to be remembered. The band then entered the house and partook of the hospitalities of the host and hostess after which they rendered several fine selections at intervals throughout the evening. The time was very enjoyable spent in dancing and other social pastimes until early this morning when the happy couple left for New York and the east on the early morning train. They have the best wishes of a host of friends. Mr. and Mrs. Fink were remembered in a very substantial manner receiving many beautiful and costly presents. The following is a complete list: . . .

  • The following appeared on 3 December 1931 in the Niagara Falls Gazette: Christian Fink, 73 years old, a lifelong resident of Niagara Falls, died suddenly yesterday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. William Skivington, 465 Seventh street. Funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. Arthur Schmoyer at Mrs. Skivington's home at 2:30 p. m., Saturday, under the auspices of Niagara River lodge, No. 785, F. and A. M. Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery.
         Mr. Fink was born in this city and lived here all his life. He served as caretaker at the Ashland avenue school for 25 yerars, retiring on a pension several years ago. He was widely known and had a host of friends throughout the city.
         His death is believed to have been the result of a paralytic stroke. He was playing with his grandchildren at home when he fell over and died a few minutes later.
         He is survived by two sons, Walter C. Fink and George C. Fink, of this city; three daughters, Mrs. William Webb, of Buffalo, and Mrs. Clyde Hagarty and Mrs. William Skivington, of this city, and three sisters, Mrs. George Haeberle, Mrs. Charles Heywang and Miss Dora Fink, all of this city. Seven grandchildren also survive.
