  • The following appeared on 20 June 1895 in the Niagara Falls Gazette: A very pretty wedding occurred at 9 o'clock this morning at the Church of the Sacred Heart, when the nuptials of Miss Lillian Hoffman of Linwood avenue and Mr. Frank Rieger of Lockport street were celebrated. Rev. Father Hines officiated and high mass was pronounced.
         The bride appeared exquisitely beautiful in a dress of brocaded silk trimmed with point lace. A long, white veil was fastened to her hair by a handsome Rhinestone pin. She carried in her hand a white prayer-book. The bridesmaid was Miss Carry Rieger, a sister of the groom. She was attired in white dotted toulle, and carried white roses. Mr. Henry Hoffman, a brother of the bride, acted as best man, The ushers were Mr. Joseph Lauer of this city and Mr. Frank Diener of Buffalo. The Bride's favor to her maid was a ring set with garnets and pearls. The groom's favor to the best man was a diamond stud. His gift to the bride was a pair of diamond ear rings and a pin set with a beautiful opal. After the ceremony the wedding party was driven in carriages to the bride's home, where a reception was tendered to the happy couple and a large gathering of friends and relatives. The home was handsomely decorated and presented an attractive appearance. Dinner was served at 1 o'clock in the spacious dining room. The bride's table was decorated with pink and white. The wedding cake was a five story one frosted with white and sat in the center of the guests' table, which was decorated with training vines and cut flowers.
         The bride and groom will leave this evening for an easter trip. Upon their return they will make their home in this city. Among those present at the wedding from out of the city were: Miss Tillie Fortkort, Miss C. Haffa, Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Hoffman and Miss Etta Hoffman of Buffalo.

  • The following appeared on 4 December 1946 in the Niagara Falls Gazette: Albert John Hoffman, 80, of 2902 Lockport road, a retired building contractor, a member of a pioneer Niagarra county family and for many years of the Hoffman house, Lockport road and Hyde Park boulevard, died yesterday at his home after a long illness.
         Born in Porter Center, Mr. Hoffman came to Niagara Falls 65 years ago and spent the remainder of his life here. He retired several years ago.
         Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Helen Kammerer Hoffman; four children, John K. Hoffman and Mrs. Norma Bouvy, both of this city; Mrs. Dorothy Stroger, Kenmore, and Mrs. Catherine Turner, of Portland, Ore; two brothers, Milton F. Hoffman, of this city, and Henry J. Hoffman, Plainfield, N. J., and one sister Mrs. Lillian Reiger, this city. Ten grandchildren also survive.
         Funeral services will be held Friday at 8:30 a. m. at the home and at 9 o'clock at Sacred Heart church with interment in Gate of Heaven cemetery.
  • The following appeared on 4 April 1951 in the Niagara Falls Gazette: Howard F. Rieger, well-known Falls insurance agent and an active member of the BPO Elks, died early today at Mt. St. Mary's hospital after a short illness. A Niagara Falls native, he was 52.
         Mr. Rieger, who lived at 941 South avenue and operated an insurance agency with Harry C. Long, had been installed, by proxy, last night as treasurer of Elks Lodge 346.
         He was exalted ruler of the Elks from 1933 to 1934 and in 1941 and 1942 was district deputy grand exalted ruler. Mr. Rieger was also a member of the grand lodge scholarship committee of the New York State Elks and a member of the past exalted rulers, exalted rulers and secretaries association of the Elks' New York State West district. He was named treasurer of Lodge 346 in 1949.
         He joined the local lodge on January 10, 1929.
         Mr. Rieger was born in this city on June 27, 1898, the son of Frank and Lillian L. Rieger. His mother, and his wife, Pearl A. Rieger, survive.
         Mr. Rieger also was a member of the Niagara Falls and New York State Insurance associations.
         Funeral services will be Saturday at 9 a.m. at the Beatty Funeral home, 1001 Ontario avenue and at 9:45 a.m. at Sacred Heart church. Lodge 346 will hold services at the funeral home at 8:30 p.m. Friday. Interment will be in Gate of Heaven cemetery.
