  • By deed dated 12 August 1848 in Walker County, Texas, Samuel Washington Lindley of Montgomery County, in consideration of natural love and affection, conveyed to his son William Nathan Lindley 420.25 acres within the John Sadler headright league in Walker County. Witnessed by Lemuel M. Collard and Jonathan S.Collard, recorded 24 January 1849, notary public John S. Besser.

  • By deed dated 19 February 1849 in Walker County, Texas, John Sadler of Walker County sold to William Nathan Lindley of Walker County, for the sum of $150, 96.2 acres of his headright league in Walker County. Recorded 19 March 1849, notary public John S. Besser.
  • On Monday, 8 April 1850, Green Wood recorded in his plantation daily account book: "Paid Wm Lindley 65 Dollars for two Yoke Oxen."
  • William Nathan Lindley and Martha Jane Hostetter appeared in the US federal census of 1 June 1850 in Walker County, Texas, enumerated next door to William's sister Rachel Kelton.. Also in the houshold is carpenter John Maberry.
  • He was a farmer, according to the 1850 census.
  • On Monday, 15 July 1850, Green Wood recorded in his plantation daily account book: "Mrs W. sold Wm Campbell's beds Bolsters & Pillows, 129 lb, @ 35 cents, $45.15," and on Monday, 12 August, "Mr Wm Lindley paid for the beds of Wm L. B. Campbell, $45.15. Inserted later under the entry for Friday, 19 July, "Received of Green Wood $59.55 for sold as above to Wm Lindley, April 28th 1854, [signed] W B Campbell," and in the left margin, "Paid." [It appears that Green paid "Bose" about 8% simple interest per year for the four intervening years.]
  • On Monday, 11 August 1851, Green Wood recorded in his plantation daily account book: "Yoaked & brought home an Ox from Mr Lindley,s and one from Kelton,s, unbroke, two that I bought last year of Mr S Linley and Wm Lindley."
  • By deed dated 18 January 1853 in Walker County, Texas, William Nathan Lindley and his wife Martha J. Lindley of Walker County sold to Green Mark Wood of Walker County, for the sum of $2,000, two parcels of land (420.25 acres and 96.3 acres) in the John Sadler headright league in Walker County. Witnessed by F. B. Pankey and Robert Micajah Powell, recorded 27 January 1853, notary public Jonathan S. Collard.
         The 420.25 acre parcel was purchased from John Sadler by Samuel Washington Lindley and subsequently conveyed to his son William Lindley on 12 August 1848. The 96.2 acre parcel was purchased by William Lindley from John Sadler on 19 February 1849.
         Green Mark's purchase of this property involved a loan from F. B. Pankey, which specified that the larger parcel was "the land on which I reside," so apparently he was renting the property prior to the purchase. (Further research required.)
  • By deed dated 30 December 1854 in Walker County, Texas, William Nathan Lindley and his wife Martha J. Lindley of Walker County sold to Green Mark Wood for the sum of $50, 4.7 acres in the John Sadler headright league in Walker County. Witnessed by Henry Sandel, J. M. Naul and Oliver Powell, recorded 7 August 1855.
  • William Nathan Lindley and Martha Jane Hostetter appeared in the US federal census of 1 June 1860 in Montgomery, Montgomery County, Texas. Other members of the household included John Wood Lindley, Rachel S. Lindley, Mahala Ann Lindley, William Frank Lindley, Samuel Lindley, Martha E. Lindley, Isaac Richmond Lindley and Evaline Lindley.
  • He was a farmer, according to the 1860 census.
  • On Tuesday, 29 October 1861, Green Wood recorded in his plantation daily account book: "Packed 12 Bales of cotton for Wm Lindley making 27 Bales."
  • William Nathan Lindley died on 7 December 1870 at age 53 in Plantersville, Grimes County, Texas.
  • His wife Martha Jane Hostetter became a widow at his death.
  • He was interred at Preston Cemetery, Grimes County, Texas.
